How To Make Gory Brain Jello for Halloween And Scare Your Guests

Me too. As far as I can remember, I have always loved Halloween. The candy, the costumes, decorations and scary stories. I used to count down until Halloween at the start of every October month. It's my favourite month for sure!

In today's post I will be showing you how to make a gory jello brain to feed your guests! In the spirit of Halloween, we want to make sure that guests are frightened with each bite they take, and I think this Jello Brain will add a nice touch of fright to their night ;)

I recently made a trip to Dollar Tree to get some ideas for Halloween post ideas, and when I saw this mold, I knew exactly what I wanted to do. Can you believe I have never made any sort of jello mould before? This one my first time buying one and I was pretty excited about it.

After purchasing, I walked home. I did not drive there, I walked. This was a long, unexpectedly hot day. When I had left the house earlier, it was kind of chilly, then after 20 or so minutes, it got pretty hot. You know what I was wearing? A sweater and a black jacket. Anyways, I was just grateful that they were selling ice cold water in their refrigerators. That was the best!

Things you'll need

Brain Mould
Two Jello packets (strawberry or raspberry)

I purchased my mould from Dollar Tree but I had some Jello already at home so I used that. Purchasing two jello packets will ensure that it fills up the entirety of the mould.

Step One: Make Your Jello

Making Jello is so easy it hurts. Okay, it doesn't hurt at all. It's quite fun! On each packet of jello, there will be instructions on how to make it. But the most basic is this;

Heat up one cup of water and pour into large bowl with your jello powder already inside. Mix until every thing is dissolved, then add 1 cup of cold water.

That's it you're done...that part.

Step Two: Pour Jello into Mould

For me, this was not as messy as I thought it would have been. I was VERY happy that I only had to clean up just some light droplets.

I poured mine from a large rubbermaid square bowl. In hindsight, I wish I was woking with a funnel instead because that seems more secure to me.

Step Three: Let it Set in the Refrigerator

The last step is to let it set or 'harden' in the fridge over night. Make room in your fridge for your brain and make sure not to place it somewhere "popular". I just mean that you don't want to place it somewhere that gets a lot of hand traffic. So now you just set it and forget it!

The Morning After..

Take a look at your brain now! It's all jelly and stuff. It's fun. It's really jiggly!

At this point, it's best to keep it in the fridge until you need to take it out and present it, which for you might be half an hour before dessert. Give yourself enough time to scoop it out and make yours look gory, which I will show you next.

Removing Your Brain from the Mould

This can be a bit challenging. Fortunately mine came out pretty decently. What you'll want to do is carefully run a knife along the edges of the jelly. Next, grab the plate you will be using as your display and place it on top of the exposed jelly. Lastly, flip your plate and carefully remove the mould. You should have a nice brain replica on your plate right now. You should also have some extra jello inside your mould. I'll tell you what you can do with the extra jelly below..

Making it Gory..

This is the fun part..? No. This is the gross part.. Yes!

Inside your mould, you will find some extra jelly. You're going to use that jelly to sprinkle it around your brain to give the impression that some parts have been eaten.

Do you have strawberry jam?

Yes. That's perfect. Get a spoon and scoop out some jam and spread it all over your hands. We want to make a hand print with that!

You got paper towels too?

Oh yeah. Awesome! Clean off your hands and use that tissue to place next to your brain.
